Rates
Prices below are in Australian dollars and include GST where it applies. A canvas is quoted when the archive is large, a sitter cannot come to York Street, or more than one person must be in the chair.
Identity Canvas Core charges for time in the paper room, for the reading of papers you bring, and for the writing and binding of the finished work. We do not sell subscriptions and we do not split sittings into monthly plans. If the work depends on how much paper you hold, we say so before the first date.

A third person in a family sitting is quoted after we know whether the third person will speak or only witness. Extra copies of a bound canvas are AUD 95 each.
What moves a canvas quote
The starting price of AUD 2,400 assumes three sittings in the York Street paper room, a private archive that can be read in those sittings, and one revision. The quote rises when:
- letters or photographs must be read between sittings because they cannot all be brought on the day
- a sitter lives outside the Sydney basin and needs a correspondence sitting (written answers plus telephone)
- binding is needed inside three weeks of the revision sitting
- the sitter asks for a sealed duplicate to be held at the studio
The quote does not include registry fees, translator’s fees, or travel into a private home. We do not travel into private homes.
Deposits and payment
A deposit of one third holds a canvas or family sitting date. Opening Sittings and Applied Identity Reviews are paid in full when you book. We take bank transfer. We do not take payment in the room in cash. The balance of a canvas is due when you approve the draft for binding, not when you collect the book.

If you cannot see the fee yet
Write to the studio with the span of years, the number of people, and whether you can come to York Street. We will answer with a sitting type and a figure, or with a request for one more fact (for example, whether a relative will interpret). We do not begin unpaid sample canvases.
